Away on the hilltop that surveys the shore, The sunlight shines down on the dress that she tore. For there stands my lady with tears in her eyes-- My ship soon is leaving for stormier skies. On Returning Home

He is nine years old when he leaves for the first time. The little town nestled in the valley is small and isolated and out-of-the-way, and he wants nothing more than to leave. It is a humid evening on the cusp of autumn, and he can't sleep. By midnight, the moon has risen high in the sky and the sound of the wind whistling through the leaves is slowly driving him to madness. His father is asleep, practically dead to the world for all he knows. He can still smell the alcohol in the air (and it won't go away, despite the hours he has spent becoming personally acquainted with a soapy dishrag), beer and whiskey and who knows what else. His

Summer

Those verdant days of old no longer are; Capricious spring has fallen back asleep. And summer's feral glory reaches far, But ours to bear, though not yet ours to keep. For yesterday will crumble into dust, And sun and sky will take the place of rain. And all that glitters soon will fall to rust, The future that we never can attain. And all is draped in brilliance, painted bright In colors none will ever see again. The words aren't there that anyone can write Of how the world has wronged we mortal men. Another summer here, and then it's gone, And autumn comes as time just carries on.

They trick the mind and cheat the eye, A thousand stretching toward the sky. From stairs that never seem to cease, So far to fall, so far to fly. Our hardened yesterdays have since moved on, Tomorrows sailing near on errant wing. Why mourn the algid days, for they have gone As stubborn winter turns to wayward spring. And rain will come, to wash away the dreams That long lay sleeping, buried deep in snow. Forevers even die, or so it seems, The days to come that we may never know. I got a DD?

Um, wow.  Thanks.  I'm a little late to the party here, but - thanks.  This is so bizarre.  And just a smidge awkward, because I'm really only talking to myself here. ...I hadn't been on the site in almost a year and then I wandered in to find more notifications than I had ever seen. I love you guys. But I probably won't be posting much because AP summer work is thoroughly kicking my ass.  Just... stick around.  I'll be back eventually. Bye~

So I'm back?  I guess.  It's been another five months...  And so it goes. Rereading A Game of Thrones is so much more depressing the second time around because I already know that my favorite characters are pretty much going to die.  But this time around I have all these crazy theories going around my head* which drive me all sorts of crazy previously only known to the elderly and Tom Cruise (and in that case, an elderly Tom Cruise would be quite fearsome indeed).  But I digress. HEY LISA GUESS WHAT?  I'm reading Leaves of Grass!  After more than a year...  Well, I guess "reading" is a bit of an overstatement.  But it's an improvement.  I'v

Okay, sorry to spam your inboxes again so soon, but I thought this was pretty exciting.  So we're playing pieces from The Phantom of the Opera in concert band, and I got nominated for a rather impressive solo in the middle of the piece.  I think it's between Angel of Music and the overture, and I get to "let out a blood-curdling scream". :)

You have just been added in my mind's list of AWESOME. Though I usually don't enjoy poetry with form (---I'm a free-verse person. Haha, something that I see is very different from you and I---) YOU ARE AMAZING. Yes. I just thought you ought to know. =]
